REPLACING A TRUCK ENGINE

When replacing a truck engine, you should try to find the same make and model, or choose an engine that has similar specifications. This will ensure that the truck engine is the correct size and has enough power to operate the truck efficiently. You can find a replacement commercial motor from commercial motor manufacturers, mechanic shops, and junk yards. You may also be able to find an engine online through auction sites and classifieds ads.

Engine Specifications

When looking for a new commercial motor, make sure you find one that has the same horsepower as the old engine. If you are having difficulty finding the exact horsepower, make sure you find a truck engine that is within the same range. This will make installation much easier.

The crankshaft size and position should also match the old commercial motor so it will fit properly in the truck.

The overall size of commercial engines should also be taken into consideration so you don't have a difficult time installing it.

Safely Installing Replacement Commercial Engines

Since commercial engines are heavier than other engines, you should find another person to help you lift the old engine out of the truck and replace it with the new one.

After taking the old truck engine out, you should check valves, fuel line, and other parts to ensure that your new engine will work properly. Missing parts or worn parts should be replaced before you install the new commercial motor.

Differences between a New Truck Engine and a Used Engine

The main difference between new commercial engines and used commercial engines is usually cost. Most refurbished engines are as reliable as new ones. A used commercial motor may come with a warranty that is similar to a new engine as well.

Finding a Mechanic

If you do not know enough about trucks to replace an engine, you should not attempt to replace commercial engines yourself. Finding a mechanic that specializes in this type of repair is your best bet. But since parts and labor can be expensive, you should find out as much about a mechanic as you can before having them replace the engine.

Obtain at least two references before allowing anyone to work on your commercial motor. Once you have found a mechanic, be prepared to be without your truck for at least a week. This is because installing commercial engines can take longer than replacing another type of truck engine because of their size.
